Alex Hope Elementary School Playground
A Great Success Story
In Fall of 2012 more than 500 students at Alex Hope Elementary found themselves without a playground after the 20-year-old playground equipment was deemed unsafe and demolished. With limited ways to fund a new playground the PAC had to be creative to raise the $100,000 required for building a new playground. Extremely motivated and determined, Karen Moore and Brie Walmsley along with others of the PAC began a relentless drive of fundraisers which included a poker tournament, bake sales and raffles. In December of 2012 the OLC Playgrounds Initiative donated $30,000. A few short months later on May 4, 2013 installation of the new equipment began. Dozens of parents and volunteers showed up in sweltering heat to build the much-anticipated “fun zone”. On Line Collision Playground Initiative “Smile Makers” were barbecuing their hearts out to feed and support the work of the community. On June 3, 2013 a number of local dignitaries and supporters turned out for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
We are extremely proud to be associated with the wonderful people of Alex Hope and take our hats off to all those who worked so hard to make sure the children of the community have a safe, fun and exciting place to play and “Build Bigger Smiles”
